Fears Clare Will Loose Major Tourism Boost With World Rally Fall-Out

It’s claimed an incomprehensible level of government inaction may have prevented a major economic boost for Clare.

In January, Limerick along with Kerry and Waterford were announced as successful candidates to host the World Rally Championship on a rotating basis in 2025, 2026 and 2027.

It was hoped a Clare stage could have been included when the event came to Limerick and that this county would benefit from a major economic boost with more than 25,000 fans expected to travel to the MidWest.

But the prospect of holding the event in 2025 has been ruled out after the Department of Sport stated it needed another six months to analyse the proposal on the eve of the operational deadline.

Kilmurry Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan O’Callaghan is hopeful the event will be held in the coming years but says our Oireachtas members must be held to account.
