Fears Clare Pupils Development At Risk Due To Policy Change

It’s feared the development of Clare children with complex needs is under serious threat unless the Department of Education revisits a policy change.

From next year, the Department is set to change the method for calculating Special Education Teaching hours in Primary Schools, to be based on the socioeconomic background of pupils and test scores.

However students with complex needs which typically include intellectual disabilities such as Down syndrome and Autism have been removed from the new criteria.
