Fear Clare Farmers Facing Worse Fodder Crisis After Drought

It’s feared farmers in Clare are facing into an even worse fodder shortage this winter, after weeks of unusually dry weather.

The past month has seen record-breaking temperatures in most parts of the country, with grass growth grinding to a halt nationwide.

This has seen farmers being forced to use their first cut of silage for the year to feed their animals and they haven’t been able to get a second cut.

The rainfall over the past few days has brought a welcome respite from the drought conditions though it’s predicted temperatures could reach the high 20s again this week.

Clare Chair of the ICMSA Martin McMahon has been telling Clare FM’s James Mulhall it’ll take a lot more rain before we see any meaningful grass growth:
