Fatal Road Crash Victim In Clare Named Locally

A man who lost his life in a road crash in Clare last night has been named locally.

Michael O’Malley is a native of New York who has been living in Shannon.

The 53-year-old was travelling in the direction of Dromoland from Quin last night, when his car hit a wall between Castlefergus and Ballyshannon.

Emergency services were alerted shortly before 9 o’clock and two units from the Shannon Fire Service were dispatched to the scene.

Fire service first responders treated the casualty until ambulance paramedics arrived, but Mr. O’Malley was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

His body was transferred to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.

Gardaí are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them – Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Tríona O’Rourke has this appeal.

The road, which connects Quin with Dromoland and the M18 motorway was closed overnight and this morning to facilitate a forensic examination of the scene, but is due to re-open shortly.
