Farmer seek aid in preventing decline of sheep stock

Farmers say they want the Government to give them an extra 20 euro for every female sheep to stop their stock declining.

Last year's sheep census showed that ewe numbers were down by almost 40-thousand on the previous year, and there are fears that numbers may drop even further if action isn't taken.

The sheep sector is currently the third largest farming sector in the country, but the Irish Farmers Association claims more funds are needed for basic necessities like food and fencing.
