The number of children in emergency accommodation in the Midwest has fallen, though overall homeless figures are on the up once again.
New figures from the Department of Housing show 156 children in Clare and Limerick had no permanent roof over their head in October, a 7% drop on the previous month.
The latest figures from the Department of Housing show there were 369 homeless adults in the Midwest in the last week of October, representing a 4% rise on September’s figures.
There were more homeless men than women and the vast majority were in the 25 to 44 age group.
But there was a fall in the number of homeless children from 168 in September to 156 last month.
Recent figures from Clare County Council showed 54 homeless children were being accommodated by the local authority at the end of September, along with a further 58 adults, while the Laurel Lodge hostel for homeless men was also full.
Its hoped a family hub operated by Novas, which is due to be opened early in the new year, will have a significant impact on homeless numbers in Clare.
