At the end of February there were 7,584 people signing on the dole queues here in Clare.

This is down from 7,700 at the end of the previous month, and a reduction of 745 on the same time last year.

In the past month, most of the fall has come in Ennis, where numbers fell by 91 to just over 4,000.

In North Clare, there was a drop of 14, in East Clare this figure was 8, and West Clare saw a reduction of 3.

While the figures show that levels of joblessness in Clare appear to be falling, this does seem to be at a slower rate than in much of the country.

National CSO figures show a drop of just over 10% in live register figures year-on-year – in Clare, that fall is under 9%.
