Extremely dangerous and destructive winds are set to batter off Clare’s coast this afternoon amid Storm Amy.
Met Éireann has issued a red marine warning that extends from Loop Head off the coast of Kilbaha as far Fair Head in Antrim.
The National Forecaster says the storm could reach ‘Force 11’ on the Beaufort Scale, which means winds of up to 117km/h are possible and will be extremely hazardous for any vessel at sea.
The high level alert comes into effect at 2pm and will remain in place until 8pm.
Simultaneously, a low level wind morning which could cause difficult travelling conditions, scattered debris and fallen trees is active inland for the entire county until midnight.
A Status Orange wind warning will come into effect in counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo from 2pm until 10pm.
