Clare County Council says an extensive gritting operation will be carried out over the next number of nights as the cold snap continues.

Dangerous conditions were reported on a number of roads this morning as a result of subzero temperatures combined with scattered wintry showers.
The worst affected areas included the N18 between Shannon and Bunratty, and roads around Roads around Ennis, Kilrush, Inagh, Kilnamona, Clareabbey and Mullagh.
The local authority treats 700 kilometres of the county's strategic roads network and Senior Engineer Tom Tiernan is hopeful that conditions will be less diffuclt to manage over the coming nights
