A makeover is in the works for one of Clare’s most unique and popular tourist attractions.
Shannon Aviation Museum has lodged plans to expand its Smithstown site with a number of new features.
The plans involve the extension of one building and the construction of at least four more on the grounds of the Shannon Aviation Museum.
The newly planned facilities include a mini-cinema, a kids zone, café, gift shop, conference room and observation tower.
The landowner has provided his consent for the development, with a letter from Gerry Garvey stating that based on discussions with the landlord, they believe the works will greatly enhance the current museum facilities.
The statement adds that the attraction has been a great asset to Shannon and is very much in keeping with its long
aviation tradition which is recognised throughout the world.
Clare County Council is accepting public submissions until December 9th and will be making a decision in early January.
