Exercise could boost Clare economy

A new report has claimed that millions of euro could be injected into Clare's economy if more people start exercising.

A sports impact review carried out on behalf of Clare Local Sports Partnership found that the average adult spends over 150 euro on sports goods and services when they start a new exercise activity.

The new study suggests that Clare's economy would benefit by up to one million euro a year if just 5% of the County’s population took up a new sport or exercise activity.

The report also highlights that more people are getting active as a result of participation in Clare Local Sports Partnership programmes.

More than half off all adults and 83% of teenagers have taken up a new sport or activity after participating in a CLSP programme with one out of every two participants now undertaking at least 2 extra hours of physical activity per week.
