Ex Ennis mayor refuses to have water meter installed until pipes are replaced

A former Mayor of Ennis has said he will refuse to allow a water meter to be installed in his home until lead pipes in his area are replaced.

Councillor Frankie Neylon’s comments came after Ennis Town Council heard the last lead pipes of the town’s water mains system will be replaced, with works beginning next month

However, a number of homes still have lead surface pipes to get supply from the central system.

Local representatives have called for the government to establish a subsidy scheme to replace these pipes, and Councillor Neylon feels many will not comply with the law until this occurs.
