EU environmental policy has been cited as a reason why a proposal aimed at cutting illegal dumping here cannot go ahead.
Last evening's monthly meeting of Clare County Council heard calls for a trial scheme, whereby domestic rubbish could have been disposed of at local authority waste collection sites.
It was hoped that removing the costs of disposing rubbish would take away the incentive to dump, but the Council says it's following Irish and EU policy of ensuring the 'polluter pays'
