A controversial report has found that thousands of families would be better off on the dole than working.
The ESRI says it costs around 10,000 euro a year to get to work, once transportation costs and the price of lunch and other expenses like childcare and clothing are factored in.

It says work-related expenses are so high that four out of 10 working families would be better off on welfare.
The findings show how difficult it is to tackle the jobless crisis as many people will be reluctant to take up jobs even if they become available.
