ESB Say Moneypoint Can Play ‘Key Role’ For Years To Come

The ESB’s Technical Delivery Lead says Moneypoint power station can still play a key role on Ireland’s electricity grid for years to come.

The West Clare plant is due to end the burning of coal by 2025, and questions have been asked as to what the future holds there.

Over 100 jobs at the plant went at Moneypoint last year in a move that was voted on and accepted by staff, and Moneypoint’s power output has been at a fraction of what it was in previous years.

But even as there is a shift towards more power generation from renewable sources, the ESB’s Paul Smith is confident Moneypoint will be very much needed in the coming years.
