ESB Committed to Future of Moneypoint

The ESB insists the future of its coal-powered station at Moneypoint in safe for the foreseeable future, even though extensive repair works were required there last year.

The semi-state firm has revealed that it spent fifteen million euro on upgrades at the West Clare site, but says this isn't unusual for a facility of its type.

Moneypoint is Ireland's largest electricity generation station, and hundreds of people are employed there, but it is nearing the end of its life and is expected to be closed by 2025.

Last year, a government green paper called for a timely decision on how to replace it, and today the ESB's Corporate Affairs and Public Communications Manager Bernardine Moloney has been telling me how they're committed to the site going forward.
