Erosion Of Democracy Contributed To Flynn’s Decision Not To Seek Re-Election

A two-time former Mayor of Ennis claims an erosion of democracy has contributed to his decision not to seek re-election.

Cllr Johnny Flynn will bring the curtain down on his twenty-year career in local politics in June after having first being elected to the Town Council in 2004.

The Tulla Road resident topped the polls in Ennis in 2009 and played a major role in the county’s bid to host Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in 2016, while serving as Mayor the previous year.

Johnny Flynn has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan that while his decision is primarily based on personal factors of health and family, he believes the creation of the Ennis 2040 DAC has undermined the influence of elected representatives.
