EPA Urges Council To Follow-up On Failed Septic Tank Inspections

The Environmental Protection Agency is urging the local authority to follow-up on failed septic tank inspections to ensure issues are fixed.

The EPA’s latest report shows that 57% of such systems in this county failed inspections last year.

Clare County Council completed 23 inspections, out of the 39 required in 2021, with the remainder to be made up this year.

The report also states that 78% of the 163 systems that failed over the eight year period from 2013 were fixed by the end of last year.

Senior Inspector with the EPA’s Wastewater Enforcement Team, Jim Moriarty, has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that Clare is on a par with the rest of the country.
