EPA Report Shows More Than 22,000 People In Clare Served By “At Risk Water Supply

More than 22,000 people in Clare are being served by an “at risk” water supply.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Drinking Water Quality in Public Supplies report for 2022, which has just been published today, shows four supplies in West and North Clare remained on its remedial action list at year end.

It also states the EPA issued legal proceedings against Uisce Éireann last year for failing to control THMs in the West Clare supply and the utility was convicted for these failings in 2023.

The number of schemes with exceedances of Trihalomethanes reduced significantly in this county, however, from 16 in 2021 to 5 last year, mainly due to improvements in the West Clare Regional Supply.

Nationally, the overall quality of the water network is extremely high, with 99 point 7 per cent of samples compliant with bacterial and chemical limits, but Programme Manager with the EPA, Noel Byrne says greater resilience is needed.
