EPA Finds Use Of Dirty Fuels During Energy Crisis Contributed In High Levels Of Air Pollution In Ennis

The EPA has found the use of ‘dirty fuels’ such as coal during the energy crisis, is likely to have contributed to the high levels of air pollution experienced in Ennis and a number of other Irish towns.

Levels of particulate matter exceeded the recommended daily limit on 21 days in Ennis, and 14 days in Tralee.

While concerning levels of dust and soot in the atmosphere were also recorded on several occasions in Ringsend, Edenderry in Offaly, Longford town, Macroom and Letterkenny.

 

Researcher in Climate Policy Sadhbh O’Neill says the Environmental Protection Agency findings are concerning.
