The Environmental Protection Agency is calling on Irish Water to accelerate works to deal with high levels of an environmental pollutant in the county’s drinking supplies.
22 water schemes in Clare were found to have high levels of Trihalomethane, including 16 schemes fed by the West Clare Regional Water Supply and 6 schemes fed by the Sixmilebridge Regional Water Supply.
THM’s are ususally formed as a result of adding chlorine to water and have been linked to certain cancers following long-term exposure.
Inspector in the Office of Environmental Enforcement with the EPA, Cormac MacGerailt has been telling Clare FM’s Rebecca O’Sullivan that it’s important for public health that the issue is rectified as quickly as possible.
