The Environmental Protection Agency insists it’s critical that works aimed at mitigating environmental and public health hazards are carried out on septic tanks in Clare that failed inspections.
It comes as the EPA’s report on Domestic Waste Water Treatment Systems, published today, shows 32% of such systems in the county failed inspections last year.
Overall Clare County Council carried out just 53 of 93 required assessments in 2022, while the remaining 40 are scheduled to take place later this year.
Domestic wastewater systems which fail to meet the minimum standards are issued with an advisory notice and twenty of these have been outstanding in this county for two years or more.
EPA Enforcement Inspection Officer, Stephen McCarthy has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan that it’s vital that the local authority follows up on failed septic tank inspections to ensure that issues are fixed.
