Environmental Group object to West Clare Wind farm proposal

A leading Environmental group has claimed that a planned wind farm development in West Clare is in contravention of a number of planning regulations and should not be given the go-ahead.

Friends of the Irish Environment say they believe the development at Shragh near Doonbeg would also be detrimental to a number of bird species in the area

The planned wind farm development at Shragh, Doonbeg would include 45 turbines, making it one of the largest in Ireland.

Developers Clare Coastal Wind Power Ltd. also wish to include a viewing platform in the project in the hope of attracting tourists.

However, the plans have been opposed by local residents and by Friends of the Irish Environment, who say it contravenes a number of planning guidelines and want An Bord Pleanala to hold an oral hearing into the development.

At least two other objections to the plan have been submitted to An Bord Pleanala, with today the deadline for such documents to be lodged.
