A Clare environmental group claims the progression of a data centre in Ennis will add to what they say is an already ‘strained’ electricity grid.
Clare County Council last month granted planning permission for developer Art Data Centres to construct a facility on the Tulla Road.
They say the project will create 400 to 450 jobs when it’s fully operational, and that it will offer ‘clean sources of power’.
However, environmental group Futureproof Clare is set to appeal against the works to An Bord Pleanala.
Group member Ruairi O Fathaigh says the ceasing of Moneypoint burning coal means any data centre would increasingly strain the grid.
