The Environment Minister insists Moneypoint’s offshore wind project will be undertaken by another developer and that the project will be delivered on time.
Norwegian company Equinor, who had been in partnership with the ESB to deliver the two billion euro deal by 2030, pulled out of the Irish market last November due to planning concerns.
It’s been estimated that one and a half million homes could be powered by the West Clare plant if the project proceeds, with the plant set to cease coal burning by 2025.
Green Party leader Eamon Ryan is currently in the offices of Clare County Council, where he’s briefing representatives on the Government’s Climate Action Plan, before visiting Shannon Airport.
Speaking with Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville, Minister Ryan says power will continue to be imported after the use of fossil fuels is stopped at the facility.
