The Environment Minister has hailed as a ‘landmark moment’ the move by a Clare recycling firm from diesel to gas powered bin lorries.
Clean Ireland Recycling has launched its Compressed Natural Gas trucks and refilling station in Shannon – the first of its kind in the country.
The trucks produce over 20 percent less carbon dioxide than their diesel counterparts and the firm’s long-term ambition is to fuel its vehicles using gas produced by food waste around the MidWest.
Minister Denis Naughten says the Clare-based firm is setting an example to others in the industry:
