Ennistymon Parish Defends Dress Code After Woman Is Barred From First Communion Ceremony

The Parish of Ennistymon has issued a statement in light of claims that a Traveller woman was barred from attending First Communion there because of the way she was dressed.

The statement comes after a video was posted on the Internet in recent days, showing complaints by the woman who accuses a priest of discrimination. 
 
It has now been viewed over 44,000 times. 
 
A statement attributed to the Parish outlines that there is a dress-code in place for participants in liturgical celebrations, and that this is to help "create a respectful and joyous atmosphere of worship, especially for children." 
 
The statement also says that Ennistymon, which it describes as "ethnically diverse and wonderfully cosmopolitan…has always had a profound regard for sacred places and occasions."
