Ennistymon has been designated as one of twenty ‘poetry towns’ across Ireland.
The new initiative will see Poetry Ireland in conjunction with Clare County Council appoint a Poet Laureate to the town, who will be commissioned to pen a piece honouring the area and its residents.
Flagship events will also be held in the town when the position is filled – other towns nationwide bestowed with the accolade include Adare, Listowel, Naas and Dungarvan.
