Ennistymon-based Syrian Refugee Believes Bright Future In Store For Her Home Country

A North Clare based Syrian refugee believes a brighter future is in store for her home country following the toppling of President Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year regime.

The nation’s new interim Prime Minister Mohammed al-Bashir has pledged to protect minority rights and has called for “stability and calm” after 13 years of civil war.

Footage has surfaced this morning of a massive demonstration in the southwestern city of Sweida where thousands have gathered to celebrate the end of Assad’s rule.

Razan Abdel Wahed, who fled Syria in 2017 and now lives in Ennistymon, says in her view, those who now hold the reins of power are a far cry from the previous administration.
