An Ennisman who attacked a woman in her home while he was working as a security guard at a ghost estate has been sentenced to two years in prison, after his initial sentence was deemed to be unduly lenient.
35-year-old Alan Kilmartin of Davitt Terrace, Cloughleigh, Ennis had pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to the woman at Acha Bhile on the Lahinch Road in the town on March 2nd, 2012.
He was later given a wholly suspended three-year jail term at Ennis Circuit Court, due in part to mitigating factors including that he was suffering from a psychiatric illness.
However, at the Court of Appeal, Mr. Justice Seán Ryan said this did not "obliterate" the severity of his crimes, and their impact on the victim and he sentenced him to two years imprisonment.
