A prominent Ennis campaigner for the Travelling community is calling on schools to ensure education facilities remain safe places for children in ethnic minority groups.

It comes as a report commissioned by the State has found Traveller children feel ‘unwanted’ in the education system.

The Out of the Shadows report states that members of the Travelling Community spoke of instances of name-calling, exclusion and of being ignored by teachers.

Ennis Traveller Kathleen Sherlock, of the Minceir Whidden group, says steps to stop the bullying and harassment of children in schools must be taken urgently.
