An Ennis-based travel counsellor says 2019 passenger levels shouldn’t necessarily be the ‘barometer’ for Shannon and other airports.
It’s after the International Air Transport Association forecasted full recovery in the aviation sector in 2023.

Shannon Airport’s passengers were 78 percent down on pre-pandemic levels last year, though are projected to grew further in 2022 with the resumption of transatlantic traffic and a number of new European routes coming on stream.
Gearoid Mannion, who’s based on O’ Connell Street in the county town, says hitting those numbers again isn’t necessarily the be all and end all for airports and airlines.
