Ennis residents are calling for urgent action to prevent their housing estate from becoming a “drug haven”.
It follows a rampant surge in reports of antisocial behaviour at a prominent location on the Limerick Road.
According to the occupants, incidents of drinking, drug abuse and the discharge of fireworks oftentimes onto the main road, have gone unabated as groups of youths have found a new place to congregate secluded from public view.
Its understood an area near the entrance, bordering an adjoining estate and petrol station, but shielded by trees and hedges has become a flashpoint for antisocial behaviour.
But local say last week, the events escalated to a new level, when a household bin was allegedly set alight with an accelerant and required the attention of emergency services before it spread to the nearby ESB Pillar box.
This resident who wishes to remain anonymous says he’s deeply concerned for what the estate is developing into.
According to residents, the incidents have been ongoing for the past six months and have become severely distressing for families, pets and particularly those living alone.
Pat was the first person to move into the Abbey Court Estate thirty years ago and claims she’s never seen the like of the behaviour before.
She says an increased Garda presence is urgently needed and fears that due to the blackspots proximity to the road, a traffic incident is inevitable.
