A Clare Principal insists the only solution to record high CAO points for third-level courses is the creation of additional college places.
Many places will be awarded on the basis of random selection, which means that some students who get the points they need, may not secure the course they want.

An additional 1,000 college places in specific courses is being looked at by the Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris this year.
But Principal of St Flannan’s College in Ennis, Fr Ignatius McCormack says that doesn’t go far enough.
