Ennis Knocked From Top Spot To 22nd IBAL Anti-Litter League

Ennis has dropped 22 places in the latest anti-litter league survey.

The final litter survey for all of 2018 by business group Irish Business Against Litter has found Ennis to be ‘Clean’, but the county town has slipped from the top spot to 22nd.

This time last year Ennis was celebrating after claiming the top spot in the IBAL Anti-Litter league, and just last month a sculpture to mark the achievement was unveiled in the Abbey Street car park.

But twelve months on, the county town has suffered a much different fate, having fallen 22 places in the ranking of 40 towns and villages.

The An Taisce report, commissioned by Irish Business Against Litter, says that a small number of sites were enough to knock Ennis from first place.

By far the most heavily littered was Ennis Train and Bus Station – as well as scattered litter, there were areas of heavy accumulations, especially where the buses reverse to park.

In contrast, the top ranking sites were Ennis Tourist Office & Franciscan Church, Roslevan Shopping Centre, O’Connell Street and the Market Square, Market Place and Lower Market Street areas, which were litter free and also well presented and maintained.
