Ennis Knackery Claims Dead Livestock Being Left Stranded On Farms Due To Government Inaction

An Ennis Knackery claims dead livestock is being left on farms due to the government’s failure to resolve the collector and renderer dispute.

Since December 1st, Ireland’s four rendering plants, which process animal carcasses into food by-products stopped accepting material from collectors (knackeries) due to their inability to pay.

Earlier this year, the cost of rendering increased from €60 to €180 per tonne and the Animal Collectors Association claims it cannot reasonably pass this cost on to farmers at the other end .

 

Martina Coffey, who works at Vincent Coffey and Sons Knackery, says the severity of the situation reaches far beyond the farm.
