An Ennis Green Party representative is stressing the urgency of the EU Nature Restoration Law being passed ahead of the decisive vote in the European Parliament today.
The law would require restoration measures to be in place on 20% of Europe’s land and sea area by 2030, and aims to make the continent’s rivers, agriculture, forests and cities more biodiverse and resilient.
It comes as the EU Environment Commissioner has pleaded with MEPs to vote in favour of the law, saying that “time is running out” and the effects of the climate and biodiversity crisis are “becoming increasingly visible”.
Brigid Ginnity of the Green Party says if the law doesn’t receive a majority in favour, further climate devastation could ensue before a new law can be drafted.
