Ennis Gardaí investigate fatal road collision

Gardaí are appealing for information following a fatal road crash on the outskirts of Ennis.

A women in her twenties died while her mother was injured after their car hit the central median on the northbound lane of the  M 18 at Ballyline near the Barefield exit shortly before four o’clock yesterday afternoon.

They had been returning home to Athenry in County Galway  when the single vehicle collision  happened.

The young driver was pronounced dead at the scene while fire-fighters had to use cutting equipment to free her mother from the car – a red Peugeot 307- before she was rushed to Limerick Regional Hospital.

A section of the motorway was closed for up to seven hours and a forensic examination of the scene was also carried out .
