Ennis FG Councillor Still In The Dark About Third Clare Candidate

An Ennis Fine Gael Councillor says she remains in the dark about whether she'll be chosen as the party's third candidate in the general election.

It follows claims by a senior Fine Gael member that Councillor Mary Howard was to be announced on the party ticket over the weekend but the Ennis councillor is refuting the claims, saying she has had no communication from party headquarters.

Senators Martin Conway and Tony Mulcahy have also expressed their hopes to run for the party but withdrew at the party's selection convention after a vote was announced, paving the way for sitting TDs Joe Carey and Pat Breen to be selected.

Councillor Mary Howard says there's growing frustration over who the third candidate will be and she says that whoever is chosen is now at a serious disadvantage in the race for a Dáil seat.
