Ennis Dialysis Unit Goes To Planning

The long-awaited Ennis dialysis unit has gone to planning stage.

Fresenius Medical Care Limited, which is the world’s leading provider of products and services for renal diseases, has submitted plans for a renal dialysis facility in the county town.

The development would be carried out on a 0.44 hectare site in the Clare Technology Park.

The application submitted on April 30th outlines plans for a single-storey building measuring approximately 904 square metres of gross floor space.

Provisions are made for vehicular and pedestrian access from the existing Clare Technology Park road network as well as parking spaces, landscaping and boundary treatments.

The applicant also outlines plans for signage, a bin store, an external mechanical and electrical plant and equipment, drainage infrastructure, and connections to services and utilities.

Clare County Council has up until June 24th to make a decision on the development and submissions must be in by June 3rd.

The Department of Health said in May of last year that a renal care service would be in place in Ennis by the end of 2025.

However, the HSE clarified last November that it’s not expected to be operational until the second quarter of 2026.
