Ennis Councilors urge government to make whooping cough vaccine available

Ennis Councillors have passed a motion calling on the Health Minister to provide whooping cough vaccines as standard to expectant mothers.

444 cases of whooping cough were recorded in Ireland last year, more than twice the figure of 2011.

Two of those children subsequently lost their lives.

Ennis Town Council is calling on the government to roll out a vaccination program for the disease – Fine Gael representative Mary Howard feels it’s a worthwhile investment.
