An Ennis Councillor is standing by her decision to support a reduction in the local property tax.
Clare Colleran Molloy is commenting as the local authority has offered 20 thousand euro towards promoting the market area, once the current rejuvenation works are completed.
The fund has been described as "miserable" and "paltry".
Ennis market traders say they're unhappy with plans to help them bounce back from months of roadworks in the area.
Construction has been taking place on a new Council-funded covered market, but traders say this has descimated their business.
Traders were hoping for a rates rebate but the council has rejected this and instead has offered 20 thousand euro towards a marketing campaign, to promote the area, once works are completed.
Some councillors and businesses have criticised the fund as "miserable and "paltry" but the interim CEO of Clare County Council, Ger Dollard says calls for it to be expanded won't be heeded.
During the debate, Council officials have said more money could be made available if elected representatives hadn't chosen to reduce the property tax.
The 15% reduction was largely supported by Fianna Fáil representatives at the time and Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy says she stands by that decision.
Meanwhile a meeting has been held between local traders and council officials today to discuss the ongoing issues in the Market area.
As a result of those discussions a committee is to be established to address challenges facing businesses there.
