Ennis Councillor Says More Than ‘Band Aid’ Solutions Needed To Address Midwest Healthcare Concerns

A former Mayor of Ennis says ‘band aid’ solutions will not be enough to address the healthcare needs of people living in this county in the long term.

This week’s monthly meeting of Clare Councillors has heard calls for an elective-only hospital to be built in the Midwest, possibly in Ennis, to take pressure off the emergency department at University Hospital Limerick.

While the doors of a new two million euro Injury Unit opened in the county town last week, plans under Slaintecare only factor in new elective hospitals in Dublin, Cork and Galway.

Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn says it would be a more fruitful move than upgrading Ennis Hospital to a model 3 facility.
