An Ennis Councillor has spoken of the "unnecessary stress" placed on parents due to the cost of sending their children to school.

Barnardos has today published its school costs survey, which shows that parents are spending 340 euro to send a senior infants pupil back to school, but that cost rises to 775 euro for a first year pupil.
As a result, two in five parents admit to forgoing paying household bills or cutting back on expenses when preparing for the new school year.
Councillor Mary Howard has been telling me that the cost of uniforms is one of the biggest burdens facing families.
