The President of Ennis Chamber believes the town has an opportunity to become a ‘world leader’ for areas of it size in both pedestrian and transport access.

It comes as the majority of traffic calming measures under the temporary Ennis mobility plan are to be lifted from the end of the month.

After a meeting of the taskforce behind the mobility plan last week, Clare County Council has confirmed the removal of most temporary mobility measures from August 30th.

It’s due to a combination of factors, including the relaxation of public health guidelines, outdoor dining taking place and the return of schools in the next number of weeks.

Restrictions are to remain in place between 11am and 2pm on weekdays and 11am and 6pm at weekends, while measures in Lower Parnell Street will stay until the end of September.

The Chair of the Retailers of Ennis group has broadly welcomed the move, but says parking facilities in the town now need to come on to the agenda.

John O Connor of Custy’s Music Shop on Cooke’s Lane believes the issue is the elephant in the room for Ennis’ overall development.

Ennis Chamber’s President, meanwhile, believes future developments in the town could lead to it becoming a world leader in mobility access.

A new taskforce is to be set up to establish the way forward for the full, permanent mobility plan, which the Council says will examine all modes of transport for the sustainable movement of people within Ennis and its environs.

Darragh McAllister says the town now has an opportunity to progressively develop both socially and economically.
