A well known Church of Ireland Priest in Ennis has expressed regret for swearing at Gardai who stopped him for speeding near Bunratty last April.
Canon Bob Hanna was fined 500 euro at Ennis District Court this week and banned from driving for 6 months after the incident in which he was stopped for doing 135 kilometres in a 100 kilometre zone as he travelled to a communion.
The court heard Canon Hanna told Garda Lisa McDonagh he was leaving the scene and she could chase him while also swearing at her in what judge Patrick Durcan descrbied as appaling behaviour.
The Church of Ireland's Archbishop's Commissary in Limerick and Killaloe has said Canon Bob Hanna regrets his abusive language, while the diocese encourages full respect for the Gardai and the laws they enforce.
