Ennis A&E officially at an end

A new era in healthcare at Ennis General begins today as the county’s accident and emergency unit is replaced by a new model of care.

A local injuries unit at the county hospital will address minor injuries, while a medical assessment unit will see patients referred directly to the care of consultants.

Clare government TDs have described this as good news for the county, but one member of the Health Forum West says questions remain.

Kilnamona Fianna Fail Councillor Tom McNamara is worried and disappointed that many Clare patients will now have no option but to go outside of the county for emergency care.
