Ennis 2040 Developments Predicted To Create 200 Long-Term Jobs

Developments under the Ennis 2040 plan are expected to create over 200 long-term jobs and generate €3.5 million of economic activity in Clare each year.

A new economic impact assessment has predicted that the almost €50 million investment will have wide-ranging benefits for the county town and surrounding areas.

With plans afoot for the first phase of the Ennis 2040 Economic and Spatial Strategy, which includes developments on the Abbey Street Car Park, Harvey’s Quay, Post Office Field and Francis Street brownfield site, an assessment of the economic effect of the developments has been conducted.

The economic impact analysis has been carried out by construction engineering company AECOM and predicts the construction phase will create 526 short-term jobs.

Beyond construction, it’s expected the completed projects will result in over 200 long-term jobs which will contribute an additional €3.5 million to the county’s economy annually.

The developments have the potential to deliver 79 homes which would provide accommodation for almost 300 people.

It’s claimed this housing boost would address “critical housing needs”, promote “town centre living” and increase footfall in the town.

Figures released by Clare County Council recently have revealed that as of December 2023, €2.2 million has been spent by Ennis 2040 DAC on the design, planning and progression of the aforementioned projects.
