The Chief Operating Officer of Ennis 2040 has praised the “superstar” efforts of local students for sharing their vision for the future of the county town.

A group of Transition Year students has this week given a presentation to local councillors outlining their ideas for sustainable practices, energy sources, accessibility and transport in Ennis going forward.

A survey conducted by the group found that 73% of Rice College students don’t have access to a school bus route.

Ennis 2040 COO Kevin Corrigan believes the students’ presentation is welcome display of local democracy in action.

Elements of the plan include a student pickup and drop-off bus route traversing suburban areas of the county town, and a sustainable bus shelter made from recyclable materials.

Isabelle Keane, who was one of the students who worked on the project, says planning for her and her peers’ futures was a hugely rewarding experience.
