English highlighted in Inspectors Report on Kilkee school

A west Clare secondary school has been told that a high turnover in staff has impacted on the teaching of English there, particularly for junior cycle students.

A Department of Education report into the teaching of the subject at St. Joseph’s Community College, Kilkee found teaching standards to be generally good and praised other aspects of the program.

However, inspectors also found that the capacity of teachers was not being fully realised and that improvement was required in ICT facilities.

The inspection was carried out in May, and the Board of Management says it has addressed a number of the issues raised in the intervening period.

However, they state that staff turnover is a matter outside of their control.
